Celebrating Courage of Survivors

by Rachel | Dec 5, 2024 | Uncategorized

Latest from Jocelyn Anderson, CEO – Celebrating courage of survivors who use services

CHRISTMAS is just around the corner.

For some it is a time of celebration, of happiness and of being with family.

For others this prospect is terrifying, a time full of trauma, stress and abuse.

For others, perhaps those with different faiths, it may not be an event at all.

Everyone is different, will have different needs and have had different experiences.

With that in mind, I thought I would use this column to celebrate the courage of some of the survivors who use our services by sharing some of the feedback that they have given and to thank our staff team who constantly go above and beyond to provide support, either directly to clients or behind the scenes.

I wanted to highlight to other survivors who may still be in abusive situations or struggling to come to terms with what has happened to them that recovery is possible, and that support is available.

“WMRSASC showed me the support and kindness that I lost hope in. They showed me that my voice deserves to be heard and if it wasn’t for them, I would not have had the strength to go through everything.”

“I would like to say thank you to you all for doing what you do for those who ask for or need support. Without you and charities such as WMRSASC there would be a lot more for survivors to have to endure and cope with alone.”

“I would just like to say a huge thank you for giving me this space to come and talk and be a part of something so magical. They helped me to realise that my past and who I became because of my trauma is a chapter I can close and move on from. I can be the best version of myself regardless of my past. My life isn’t over because of the trauma I suffered, and I saw that there is a light at the end of the tunnel the second I walked into the group.”

Thank you to our clients who have shared such positive feedback and shown how much change can take place.

Your abuse does not define you and support is available.

So, if you or a friend or family member have experienced any form of sexual violence or abuse and need support please do get in touch. More details at www.wmrsasc.org.uk.
