What our LGBTQ+ ISVA service is?

LGBTQ+ ISVA is a qualified Independent Sexual Violence Advocate that can provide specialist support to survivors of sexual violence that identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. This service is available to ALL survivors, including and not exclusive to- Non-binary, Gender queer, Gender diverse, pansexual, asexual, intersexual, androgynous, non cis individuals.

As a service supporting LGBTQ+ survivors we understand that LGBTQ+ have many similar experiences that can act as a barrier in seeking help such as:

  • Homophobia
  • Transphobia
  • Biphobia
  • Hate crime
  • Fear of ‘outing’ or being ‘outed’
  • Fear of exclusion (e.g. faith, beliefs and communities)

And many more….

As a service our aim is to challenge those barriers in society and help alleviate those barriers for survivors from the LGBTQ+ community. We are able to provide a free and confidential space for survivors to receive specialist ISVA support no matter when the trauma experience happened.

Asking for help...

We understand that it can be extremely difficult for LGBTQ+ survivors to take that first step in receiving support. Therefore, we have several referral pathways to access our LGBTQ+ ISVA service……

Our website, friends/family referrals, professional referrals etc…..

In the meantime, if you are a survivor that identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community and would like more information around sexual violence, then we recommend visiting Galop.

Values from which the ISVA works

  • To believe.
  • To be non-judgemental.
  • To recognise survival strategies.
  • To enable survivors of sexual violence to retain control.
  • To recognise it is an individual’s decision whether they report to the police.
  • To empower and enable survivors of sexual violence.
  • To validate feelings whatever they are.
  • To dispel the myths around rape and sexual abuse.
  • To treat all survivors of sexual violence as individuals.

How to refer into our services

We recognise how hard it is for you to get in touch and we will do all we can to support you. Once contact with us has been made, one of our team will call to explain the service further and answer any questions. They will then allocate an ISVA, who will get in touch to arrange an initial assessment. Anything discussed will be in the strictest confidence and no information will be shared with other agencies without your consent unless it involves matters of child protection, or someone at risk of serious harm.
