Consent, Confidentiality & Safeguarding

Please read this information carefully

This document explains how WMRSASC will keep records about you, when information is kept private, and when we may have to share information to keep people safe or follow the law. 

  1. Your Consent to Holding Records (UK GDPR)

To provide support, WMRSASC needs to keep records about you. These records may include personal information and sensitive information about your health, wellbeing, and experiences. 

By accessing our service, you are agreeing that: 

  • WMRSASC can keep records about you so we can provide support. 
  • Some of this information may be sensitive (for example, health or personal experiences). 
  • Records may be kept electronically and/or in written form. 
  • Your information will be stored securely and handled in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. 
  • You have the right to ask to see the information we hold about you and to ask for corrections to be made if something is wrong.  

 

  1. Confidentiality – Keeping Information Private

WMRSASC treats your information as private wherever possible. 

This means: 

  • What you share with us is normally kept confidential. 
  • Only staff who need to know the information to support you will have access to it. 
  • Confidentiality has limits and sometimes information must be shared (see below). 

 

  1. Safeguarding – Keeping People Safe

WMRSASC has a legal duty to help keep people safe. 

We may need to share information without your permission if: 

  • There is a serious risk that you could be harmed. 
  • There is a serious risk that someone else could be harmed. 
  • A child or vulnerable adult may not be safe. 

In these situations, we may share relevant information with services such as social care, health services, or emergency services to reduce risk and keep people safe. 

 

  1. Police and Legal Responsibilities

Sometimes WMRSASC must share information to follow the law. 

This may include situations where: 

  • There is a legal duty to report serious crime. 
  • Information is required by court order. 
  • There is a serious risk of harm to others. 
  • Emergency services need to be contacted because someone is in immediate danger. 

 

  1. Sharing Information with Other Services (When There Is No Immediate Risk)

Sometimes it may help your support if information is shared with another service. 

In these cases: 

  • We will ask for your permission before sharing information. 
  • You may be asked to sign another consent form. 

 

  1. Using Anonymised Information to Improve Services (Optional)

WMRSASC may use information that does not identify you to help improve services.
